התבשמנו מהידידות איתו כשבגד בכורדים בסוריה, כשהתפעל מהרוצח ג'ולאני ואפשר לו לטבוח בעלאווים, בכורדים ובנוצרים, ורק בזכותנו ניצלו הדרוזים בסוריה מגורל דומה. הוא מאוהב בכל דיקטטור, ג'ולאני, ארדואן, פוטין, הפקיסטנים, סיסי שמצפצף על תכניתו ז"ל להגירת העזתים, וכעת הוא גולש לכניעה להאייטולות שנייה לפני שהם קרסו. עם קטאר יש לו ולמקורביו סיפור אהבה מסריח מכסף, שוחד וניגודי אינטרסים שמסוכנים לעתיד העולם.
זה כמו שרגע לפני קריסת גרמניה הנאצית היה רוזוולט חותם על הסכם עם היטלר, משאיר אותו בשלטון, משחרר לו כספים מוקפאים ופותח לו את הדרך להשתקם, וזה תוך הפקרת בריטניה, צ'רצ'יל ומדינות אירופה. זו ההשוואה.

הבגידה היא גם במדינות ערב שהלכו איתו, בייחוד באמירויות. הם, שיושבים ליד לוע הארי, לקחו צ'אנס לא קטן בהצטרפם למחנה של ישראל וארה"ב, בהכירם את הבוגדנות האמריקנית הוותיקה, וכעת הם עלולים לשלם את המחיר.

"וייוותר יעקב לבדו", כתוב בספר בראשית כשיעקב עומד בפני מאבק פיזי נגד מלאך מסתורי. אנחנו לבד, כרגיל. וזהו ה-מבחן המנהיגותי של נתניהו. המצב הוא עדין כי מצד אחד, עצם השותפות עם ארה"ב היא מכפיל כוח וגורם מרתיע, וקרע גלוי מול הנשיא עלול לעורר כל מיני חלאות מסביב שיראו בזה שעת כושר. מצד שני, לא רק שלא יעלה על הדעת שלא להגיב הן על הפרת ההבנות שהושגו לפני כשבוע ע"י טראמפ עצמו שלפיהן דין ביירות כדין פגיעה בשטח ישראל, ובטח על התקפת טילים אירנית, אלא חובה להגיב, ובכוח רב וחסר פרופורציה, כדי להוכיח לרעים שא. אנחנו לא חלק מהקריסה של טראמפ, ולכן איתנו לא כדאי להתעסק, ב. ההנחה שהם קיבלו מטראמפ היא רק ממנו ולא מאיתנו, כדי להמחיש שאנחנו לא חתומים איתם על שום הסכם.
הואיל ולמדנו שטראמפ מתקפל שוב ושוב מול מי שעומד תקיף מולו, אז אם הוא פנה נגדנו, אז שיתקפל הפעם בפנינו ולא מול איזה רודן תורן.

Now It's Our Turn to Be Betrayed by Trump

We enjoyed the friendship while he betrayed the Kurds in Syria, while he praised the killer al-Julani and allowed him to massacre Alawites, Kurds, and Christians. Only thanks to Israel were the Druze in Syria spared a similar fate. He seems enamored with every dictator—al-Julani, Erdoğan, Putin, the Pakistanis, Sisi (who openly disregarded his now-defunct Gaza migration plan), and now he appears to be sliding toward surrender to the Ayatollahs just as their regime was nearing collapse.
His relationship—and that of those around him—with Qatar is tainted by what critics see as money, influence, and conflicts of interest that endanger the future of the free world.
It is as if, just before Nazi Germany collapsed, Roosevelt had signed an agreement with Hitler, left him in power, released frozen assets, and opened the door for his recovery—all while abandoning Britain, Churchill, and the nations of Europe. That is the comparison.
This astonishing surrender agreement preserves the Iranian regime, rescues it, floods it with money, enables the reconstruction of its entire machinery of death—both inside Iran and throughout the Middle East—and leaves Israel exposed.
This is not merely a betrayal of Israel; it is also a betrayal of the Iranian people, tens of thousands of whom were slaughtered after taking to the streets encouraged by American promises that “help is on the way.” So this is what that help looks like.
The aging child has lost interest in the toy and wants to move on to an easier task. Perseverance, fighting evil, strengthening America’s standing in the world—these are apparently not for him. Whenever he encounters credible resistance, he gives up and goes with the flow.
The betrayal also extends to the Arab states that aligned themselves with him, particularly the UAE. Sitting beside the lion’s mouth, they took a considerable risk by joining the camp of Israel and the United States despite their familiarity with America’s long history of unreliability. Now they may pay the price.
The obvious result is that there will be no Abraham Accords expansion. Saudi Arabia and other countries are not eager to gamble on what increasingly looks like a broken American reed. If Trump believes that, once the shooting stops, they will rush into his arms and enter an alliance with Israel under his sponsorship, then he does not understand the reality of the region. But that is precisely the point—he does not understand the reality in which he is operating.
This is not “Make America Great Again.” It is cementing America’s image as weak—both in terms of leadership, which was supposed to be firm and serious, and in terms of public opinion, which appears unwilling to support a military campaign that was approaching victory and had incurred very few casualties.
As long as Obama and Biden were seen as appeasing hostile regimes, America still had in reserve a conservative, nationalist alternative—one that projected confidence and strategic clarity. Now, with the collapse of the very American camp that was supposed to repair the damage done by the Democrats, America’s global standing is set to suffer a dramatic decline.
Anyone can feel this instinctively. We feel contempt for appeasement, weakness, and perhaps even the corruption of a president who, until moments ago, appeared larger than life, but who now appears confused, weak, conciliatory, and detached from reality.
There is something even more troubling. Throughout the conflict, reports suggested that the Trump administration, through Pakistan and Qatar, maintained communications with Iran. That means the Iranians understood that the blows they were receiving had limits—that the intention was to compromise rather than defeat them outright. It is entirely possible that the regime would already have collapsed were it not for the confidence those contacts provided.
This mirrors what Obama did around 2014, when, even as congressional sanctions were squeezing Iran, his administration was negotiating a nuclear agreement with Tehran, encouraging the regime to hold out.
And us? “Jacob was left alone,” says the Book of Genesis, as Jacob prepared for a physical struggle with a mysterious angel. We are alone, as usual.
And this is Netanyahu’s great leadership test.
The situation is delicate. On one hand, partnership with the United States remains a force multiplier and a deterrent. An open rupture with the American president could encourage hostile actors to exploit what they perceive as an opportunity.
On the other hand, it is inconceivable not to respond—not only to the violation of understandings reached just a week ago, according to which attacks from Beirut would be treated as attacks on Israeli territory, but certainly to any Iranian missile attack. Israel must respond, and respond with overwhelming force, in order to demonstrate two things:
- We are not part of Trump’s retreat, and therefore we are not to be treated as weak.
- Any assumptions Iran may have received from Trump apply to him alone, not to us. We are not party to any such agreement.
We have learned that Trump repeatedly backs down when confronted by determined opposition. If he has now turned against us, then let him back down before us this time—not before the latest dictator in line.
Because if we retreat, it will be reflected in withdrawals from Lebanon, the return of Radwan forces to the doorstep of our women and children, the same in Gaza, and ultimately in the face of a nuclear Iran armed with ballistic missiles.
I do not know what plans are being prepared in Jerusalem, but the response must be such that Iran’s economy cannot recover from it, regardless of any surrender agreement brokered by Qatar’s protégé. And while we are at it, perhaps it is time once again to eliminate the Houthis’ ports, oil infrastructure, and airport. It has been a long time since we paid them a visit.
