ההר הירוק תמיד  הרב ברוך אפרתי

 

פקחתי את עיני, היה אז חודש שבט,
ראיתי מעלי ציפור קטנה אחת
ותכלת השמים וענן יחיד
וראיתי
את ההר הירוק תמיד.

ההר הירוק כל ימות השנה
אני עוד חולם ושואל
לנשום רוחותיך כבראשונה
לשכב בצילך כרמל

במשחקי ילדות קלי השיכרון
רדפתי פרפרים, החלקתי במדרון,
ועת חיפשתי לי מסתור ללב תמים
אז ברחתי 
אל ההר הירוק תמיד

 

מילים מקסימות אלו נכתבו בידי יהורם טהר-לב, כשיר הלל להר הכרמל אשר ליווה את ילדותם של בני קיבוץ יגור אשר למרגלות ההר הירוק תמיד.

 

גם אני גדלתי מול הר. ילדותי הייתה במושבה הקטנה גבעת שמואל, עיירה מגוונת בתושביה החילוניים והדתיים, מוקפת פרדסי הדר ורוח נעימה. היום במקום ההר עומד בניין המועצה היפה, ובמקום הפרדסים ניצבים בניינים מרובי דיירים, בצד פארקים ועצים רבים העומדים כמצבות זיכרון לאשר היה.

 

בבואי לבקר את הוריי, ההר הירוק שוב לוחש לי סודות מבעד שמלת הבטון המעטרת אותו. ההר הירוק שמח שגרים עליו שוב יהודים כקדם, לכך חיכה אלפי שנים.

 

גם כיום, מחלון חדרו של בני נשקף הר ירוק תמיד- הרי יהודה ורכס העיטם המקראי שמדרום לירושלים. כאשר אני מטייל עליו עם ילדיי, העיטם  לוחש לנו לחישות דומות ללחישות אחיו, ההר שבגבעת שמואל- "חיכיתי לכם אהובים, עזבתם בחורבן יהודה והנה אתם שבים לשחק בי ולהלביש לי שמלת מלכות!"

 

אולם לא שפר גורלו של ההר הירוק של גוש עציון כגורל ההר הירוק של גבעת שמואל. רבים קמים על העיטם להשתיק את קולו. רבים מגויי הארץ ומחלשי הדעת באומה מבקשים למסור אותו לעמים שאך מקרוב באו, עמים שלא היו כאן כמונו בימי מלכות יהודה העתיקה.

 

בעיצומו של חודש שבט, נשאל את עצמנו- האם נדע להקשיב ללחישת ההר הירוק בעיטם? האם נדע להסיר את עורלת האוזניים והלב, ולהיפתח לאהבת ארץ ישראל הישנה והתמימה שלנו?

 

מי שעוד חולם ושואל לנשום רוחותיו כבראשונה, מי שרוצה לנסות ולהאזין ללחישת ההר הירוק ולראות את נופיו, מוזמן אלינו לאפרת, לטייל בשבילי העיטם ולשמור לו אמונים.

The Green Mountain

Yehoram Tohar-Lev wrote the beautiful and well-known Hebrew song, "The Evergreen Mountain," as a paean to Mount Carmel, in whose shadow he passed his childhood on Kibbutz Yagur.

 

I also grew up in the shadow of a mountain.  My childhood was spent in the small village of Givat Shmuel, a colony of religious and non-religious Jews, surrounded by citrus groves and caressed by gentle breezes.  Today, the attractive local council building dominates the mountain, and the citrus groves have been replaced by apartment buildings bordered by parks and a profusion of trees, which serve as a reminder that nature once reigned here.

 

When I visit my parents, the green mountain still whispers its secrets from behind the robe of concrete that now surrounds it.  The green mountain is glad that Jews live upon it now as before – for thousands of years it awaited their return.

 

From where I live today, another green mountain is visible: the Judean Hills and the ridge of the Biblical Eitam, south of Jerusalem.  When I walk it with my children, the Eitam whispers to us similar secrets to those of its brother in Givat Shmuel: "I waited for you after you left when Judea was destroyed, and now you're returning to adorn me again in garments of royalty!"

 

Alas, the fate of the green mountain of Gush Etzion hasn't been as happy as that of Givat Shmuel.  Many are ascending the Eitam to silence its voice.  They come from among the nations of the world and from the faint-hearted among the Jews and seek to deliver it to a foreign people that were unknown in the days of the Judean commonwealth.

 

As the moon of Shvat reaches its fullness, we will ask ourselves: Can we hear the whispering of the green mountain of the Eitam?  Can we remove the orlah of our ears and hearts and open ourselves to the love of our ancient and eternal land?

 

Whoever wants to listen to the whisperings of the green mountain and to see its views, whoever still dreams of inhaling its breezes, is invited to Efrat to walk the paths of the Eitam and to keep faith with it until we can settle it as of old.
