Dear Friends, We are continuing to update you and share thoughts and plans to promote the vision of sovereignty even in the shadow of the corona virus threatening the entire world. We again warn against the idea of political unity based on the Trump Plan. True Zionist sovereignty is sovereignty that looks exclusively to the good of the People of Israel and conforms only to the Jewish Zionist dream that has lasted for two thousand years – the return to all parts of our Land and assert over them our full sovereignty. On the other hand, the Trump plan entails a disastrous political trap in the guise of establishing a terror state in the heart of our Land. Even during this difficult time when we are fighting the pandemic we must not, Heaven forbid, view the Trump plan as a compromise between the Right and the Left, between partial sovereignty and a smaller Arab state in the heart of the Land. One does not compromise on one's homeland or make political deals on it. The sovereignty plan must be advanced regardless of any commitment to the American president's roadmap. We must remember: Our future lies not in easy solutions or ignoring the problems, but especially by marching soberly in the light or our view of the truth, the eternal truth that states that in the Land of Israel there will be but one entity, but one sovereignty between the sea and the Jordan River – the Jewish national entity. The more resolutely we state this, the better. Uncertainty invites pressure. It is childish to expect an immediate elimination of any crisis or difficulty. The People of Israel must hold to its basic ideals and values, to be patient and progress step by step, as our People has done for two thousand years. We will not lose our will just because at the moment we have no operative solution for every practical question, and we will certainly not commit suicide by choosing a scheme that is nothing but a disaster and the end of the Zionist dream. We draw our strength from the ancient Biblical promise, the promise that teaches the People of Israel to claim absolute justice in the world. This call falls on tens of millions of attentive ears throughout world. We must be cautious and warn against the Trump plan, which harms our spiritual existence and our role toward humanity. Another task to which we must devote special emphasis, and which, unfortunately, does not receive the proper attention as far as the governmental aspect of the State of Israel is encouragement for aliyah to the Land of Israel. As of now, the State of Israel does not devote enough thought, effort or money to renew the aliyah movement. We must make a huge investment in education toward this subject. It is not the material Land of Israel that attracts immigrants, but the spiritual Land of Israel. We must awaken the consciousness, go from city to city as did the fathers of Zionism and the Hovavei Zion, to awaken the old love for Zion – to strengthen and internalize in every child, youth and adult, the concept that "the Land of Israel is for the People of Israel". Presently, as we part from the Holiday of Freedom and are already looking toward the Independence Holiday, we remember that we are a free people, an independent people that is not subject to foreign directives or foreign interests. We look only for the good of the Jewish People and this good is sovereignty over our Land!
Our Reaction The Sovereignty Movement reacted to Oded's Revivi claim in the Jerusalem Post as if those people on the Right who oppose a Palestinian State- endanger the application of Sovereignty. Here is a link to our reaction: No to Sovereignty if the price is a Palestinian State: https://bit.ly/2XOPgKB Arutz 7 also posted our reaction: https://bit.ly/2z9HJf1 | | | | As with every year, this year as well we will raise the Israeli flag with pride and strength on Independence Day, the commemoration of the beginning of our redemption, and we will thank the Master of the Universe for all of the good that He bestows upon us. We are calling on people to raise Israeli flags even now, in the days of the national-historic holiday of Independence for the People of Israel, the holiday of Passover, the Holiday of Freedom. We will bear the flag to strengthen the spirit of the People during these days of unity, brotherhood and solidarity, which is so unique to the People, in these days of mutual responsibility and partnership. We will carry the flag proudly because we are part of this special People, a People which, despite all the cynicism, still transmits light to the nations. We will carry the flag with gratitude and blessings for the authorities that lead the state and the defense forces, which work day and night to fortify the People of Israel against the threat of the plague and guard Israel from the enemies within our borders. | | | | Rav Baruch Efrati, chairman of the Derech Emuna rabbis, in a new video for the Shemini Torah portion. On the attempt to understand why Nadav and Avihu acted in such a way as to lead to their deaths, and how that tragic event teaches us to behave appropriately and out of humility and modesty in the world of spirit and Torah | | | | In this column, we will host public figures who will complete the phrase in the title, and tell what sovereignty is for them. The first guest in this column is MK (Likud) Kati Shitrit "Sovereignty for me is the return of Zion – the rebirth of the Jewish People in its homeland. We have been privileged to return to the Land of Israel after 2000 years of exile, and now we pledge our loyalty and promise to stay here and continue building the Land." | | | | We asked you to join us with a positive view and send us a few good things in our environment, things that are good for all of us to give thanks for. Here are a few of these good things to be thankful for:
Because so many people have finally condemned the attacks by the media against the haredim as a group Because more and more members of Knesset are standing for principles of sovereignty and resolutely demanding that the Likud negotiating team not give up on these principles.
Israel has been chosen as one of eight countries to participate in an international experiment for a treatment against Corona.
For the significant achievements in Israeli labs and the Weizmann Institute that have put Israel at the tip of the spear in the search to find a treatment for the virus
For the obedience of the People of Israel showing responsibility for the health of the older generation, the generation of the founders, to whom we ow so much.
For the endless initiatives of kindness and care for the needy, for the elderly and the isolated especially in these complex days.
For the touching prayers from the balconies that will create a national memory for this generation.(video of the prayer on the tower)
We invite you to continue to look left and right, to find the abundant goodness all around us and write to us so that we can remember how good it is to be thankful. | | | | 1968 Passover at the Park Hotel in Hevron
On the eve of Passover 1968, a car convoy arrived at the local Al-Khalid Hotel - later known as the Park Hotel - owned by Faiz Kawasma. Out of the vehicles came ten young, child-caring families, and singles, from all walks of life, from Hashomer Hatsair to members of Agudat Yisrael. Rabbi Moshe Levinger headed the group with Rabbis Haim Druckman and Eliezer Waldman and their families. Yitzhak (Akele) and Haya Ganniram, Israel Harel, the publicist, Shmuel Katz from the Irgun, Benny Katsover, Rabbi Shlomo Aviner, then a new immigrant from France, author Moshe Shamir, and more. This was the first Passover in Hebron in about forty years. For them, it was not just an orderly night. On that day, they renewed the Jewish settlement in the City of the Patriarchs. The next day, it was no secret anymore. The residents themselves convened a large press conference announcing their intention to stay there and renew the Jewish community there.
At the advice of Rabbi Zvi Yehuda HaCohen Kook, the new guests of the Park Hotel sent a short greeting to the Defense Minister: "Happy Holidays - Hebron Mitnachalim (Settlers)." Dayan quickly dispatched a telegram Answer: "To the Hebron Mitnachalim ( Settlers) - Happy Holidays." Unintentionally In those very moments, a political term was coined to accompany the State of Israel from here on: Mitnachalim (settlers).
The Israeli government, in those years, preferred that the renewed Jewish settlement be erected on the outskirts of Hebron, in a Jewish community outside the old city inhabited by Arabs, but that would dominate it from above. Thus, 3 years later, Kiryat Arba was established.
Jewish settlement in the old city of Hevron itself was resumed 40 years ago, following the severe terrorist attack on Saturday evening, eve of Lag Ba'omer, May 3, 1980. A large group of Kiryat Arba members and students of the "Nir" yeshiva, came as usual on Friday night, to visit the group of women who had barricaded themselves for about a year at the "Bet Hadassah" in Hebron. A few meters before the Hadassah house, a jihad-Islamic terrorist squad, hiding on the roof of one of the houses, faced the house of Bet Hadassah. In the shooting attack, five men were murdered. Another young man, Hanan Krauthammer, was fatally wounded and two days later died of his wounds.
The Israeli government, shocked like all citizens of the country, decided on a truly appropriate Zionist response to the Arab terror attack. That week, the government gave official approval to renew the Jewish community within the city of Hebron. In this context, the government ordered the renovation of the Bet Hadassah House, allowed the Jews to settle the nearby Hasson house, and the Schneerson House in the Old Jewish Quarter. Another floor was built in BetHadassah. And thus, the move that began on the seder night of 1968 was significantly strengthened within a few years. | | | | Park Hotel Hevron 1968. Courtesy of Hebron archives | | | | You are still invited (at least until the end of the hiatus in the educational institutions, and perhaps even afterwards) to send us filmed or written documentation or an article on joint study for parents and children on the subjects of sovereignty. We will share what you send and publish them in the Ribonut web site. Presently, the suggested topics are:
-How the map of Israeli sovereignty has changed from the days of the British Mandate until the present
-Israeli sovereignty in its Land, in Jewish thought
-Find a suitable place to establish another city in Judea and Samaria, and state your reasons for choosing that specific place. | | | | Take a look at another video in the video series that we distributed among members of the Sovereignty Youth Movement, this time featuring the head of Gush Etzion Council, Shlomo Ne'eman, who is recuperating from Covid-19 (and we wish him health, strength and a speedy recovery) explaining to us how it is to live with the illogical situation of civil life without sovereignty. Get to know the absurdity that a head of a Judea and Samaria Council must contend with every day; the absurdity facing each person of almost a half million people living in Judea and Samaria. The video is in Hebrew. Comments, photos, ideas, participation and anything that you find suitable, you are invited to send us as a text or a WhatsApp message.
